Extraction Rate

The Xpelair C4TR has two airflow rate speeds, which are selectable during installation. The options are 15 litres per second at low speed or 21 litres per second at high speed. When operating at the higher speed, the noise level is not affected too much and the extractor remains near-silent.

In order to configure your chosen speed, you simply turn the dial underneath to the desired speed.

Power Consumption

In terms of the power consumption rate, the C4TR has an electrical power rating of 6.3 – 7W, making the Xpelair C4TR highly energy-efficient, as well as economical to use. Additionally, an integral meter shows exactly how long the fan has been running for.

Noise Level

Perhaps the most popular feature of this extraction fan is its very low running sound and lack of noise output, having a minimum sound level of just 16dB! As you will likely know, when an extraction fan is in operation, noise is emitted by both the interior motor and the movement of air through the duct. The Xpelair C4TR combats this from occurring, with the use of its patented Ghost™ Air Movement Technology: a combination of long-life silent motors and precision-engineered parts to mitigate mechanical noise, with advanced airflow management that removes irregular airflow paths and turbulence.

Design

With regard to the design, the fan is contemporary and sophisticated looking while also being totally functional. The fascias are finished in cool white and have a square shape; giving the fan a modern look, which will go with a large majority of bathroom styles.

Xpelair’s products are manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility in the UK. The C4TR is mainly made from, like other models in Xpelair’s Simply Silent™ series, high gloss ABS. ABS material is known for its high tensile strength and resistance to corrosion, making the fan both durable and easy to clean.

Overrun Timer

The Xpelair C4TR Simply Silent Contour fan includes an overrun timer that is fully adjustable during installation. It can be configured starting from 30 seconds up to 30 minutes – after the unit has been switched off of course!

Alternatively, you can fit a pull cord to the unit in order to switch the fan on and off when you want. Another option is to opt for the timer and a built-in humidistat to automatically regulate your bathroom’s humidity.

Verdict: Should You Buy The C4TR?

And that is the end of our review! So, is the Xpelair C4TR worth it? The answer is Yes – I do believe that this extractor fan is well worth buying. In our extremely noisy world, approximately a third of the British public suffer from a chronic lack of sleep, and over 1 in 10 of us report being woken up or kept awake at night by a noisy extractor fan. We shouldn’t have to choose between a damp-free home and a peaceful night’s sleep – with the Xpelair C4TR, at least you’re more likely to get both.

In some of the less positive customer reviews, consumers have claimed that it doesn’t perform as rapidly as expected in high-humidity environments, such as bathrooms or shower rooms without windows. Due to this, the product may be better suited to environments with lower humidity levels where damp is still likely to accumulate, such as cloakrooms, toilets, and kitchens. However, a general rule to keep in mind for smaller axial fans is, the quieter the fan, the less powerful it is, and therefore, the less the extraction rate will be.
